The chat popup is a small floating button that appears in the corner of your website. When visitors click it, a chat window opens where they can talk to your AI agent. It’s the recommended embed method because it’s non-intrusive and works on any page.
The ConvoTool chat popup open on a website

Setup

1

Open the Connect page

Select your agent and click Connect in the sidebar.
2

Get the code

In the Website section, choose the chat popup and click Get code. Copy the snippet — your agent ID and organization ID are already filled in.
3

Paste it on your website

Add the snippet just before the closing </body> tag. The snippet is a small loader that pulls in ConvoTool’s widget asynchronously, so it won’t slow down your page.
Add the snippet to your site’s global template or layout file so the chat appears on every page automatically.

What your visitors see

  1. A small chat icon appears in the corner of your website. Its appearance follows your chat interface settings.
  2. Clicking it opens the chat window with your welcome message.
  3. Visitors type their questions and get instant responses from your AI agent.
  4. They can minimize or close the chat at any time.

Controlling the widget

The popup exposes a small JavaScript API on window.convotool. The most common use is identifying a logged-in user so the agent knows who it’s talking to:
See Identity verification for how to generate the token on your backend. These capabilities are available with the chat popup but not the iframe embed:
  • Identity verification — securely identify logged-in users.
  • File uploads — let visitors attach files in the chat (enable it in Behavior settings).
  • Event listeners — react to chat events in your own code.

Works with any website

The chat popup is a standalone JavaScript widget. It works with static HTML, WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, and JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, and Angular.
